A pilot hole is usually only the first step in screw installation.
With a conventional setup, once the pilot hole is finished, you need to replace the drill bit with the appropriate driver bit. If you use two separate tools, you may also put the drill down and pick up a screwdriver or impact driver to finish the job.
With ST3, both drilling and screwdriving can be handled with the same power tool.
Once the pilot hole reaches the required depth, simply replace the drill bit with the appropriate driver bit, switch from Drilling mode to Screwdriving mode, and continue with the screw installation without needing a second power tool.
For furniture assembly, shelving, cabinets, brackets, door hardware, and other projects that involve repeated drilling and fastening, this creates a more continuous workflow.
More importantly, the pilot hole already determines the direction the screw will follow. If the hole is straight and drilled to the correct depth, the screw installation that follows is generally easier to control.
That is the value of combining 90° mechanical guidance, real-time depth measurement, Drilling, and Screwdriving in the ST3 system. It does not eliminate the necessary bit change; it reduces unnecessary tool switching and makes the overall workflow more consistent.
