Standard Chuck Sizes
Chuck size determines the range of drill-bit shank diameters a drill can accept. Compact household drills commonly use a 3/8-inch chuck, while many full-size 18V and 20V drills use a 1/2-inch chuck.
The ST3 has a 13 mm chuck capacity—approximately 1/2 inch—allowing it to work with a broad range of standard drill bits and taps. Users are not locked into proprietary cutting tools and can select the appropriate bit for wood, metal, plastic, PVC, tile, glass, and other materials.
Keyless vs. Keyed Chucks
A keyless chuck can be tightened by hand and makes bit changes faster, while a keyed chuck uses a separate chuck key to provide additional mechanical tightening. Keyless systems are more common on modern cordless drills because they are convenient for household projects that require frequent bit changes.
Chuck capacity, however, is only one part of accurate drilling. A large chuck does not automatically make a straight or correctly sized hole.
What Most Handheld Drills Leave to the User
With a conventional cordless drill, the operator must judge whether the bit is perpendicular to the work surface. That can be difficult when drilling into a wall, working close to the floor, reaching overhead, or starting on a smooth material such as tile or glass.
The SPESYN Tool 3 addresses this problem with a detachable Front Guide Module and dual guide rails. When the module is placed flat against the work surface, it mechanically guides the drilling path to help maintain 90-degree alignment and reduce handheld wobble.
The same system also provides real-time depth feedback through the integrated LCD. Users can zero the measurement at the surface and monitor the relative drilling depth with ±0.1 mm accuracy.
This is particularly useful for blind holes, repeated holes of the same depth, cabinet hardware, dowel work, and projects where drilling through the opposite side would damage the workpiece.
The display provides real-time feedback rather than automatically stopping the motor. The user remains in control and stops drilling after reaching the desired depth.
The Front Guide Module also supports dust collection, helping keep the drill point visible and reducing loose debris around the work area.
